Squirrel Removal in Tomball, Texas
Squirrel removal in Tomball means getting the squirrels out of the attic alive and then closing the roof so they cannot chew back in. Michael Gerbino of Cypress Critters & Pests does it himself, with one-way doors and live cage traps, then covers every chewed opening with metal or hardware cloth and repairs the wood. Older houses near downtown and newer ones on the edge of town both get squirrels, for different reasons. Call Michael at 713-775-8799 if you hear running in the attic in the morning.
Why do squirrels go after older Tomball houses?
A squirrel’s teeth never stop growing, so it chews on everything, and old wood is easy work. On the historic houses around downtown Tomball, fascia boards and soffit corners have dried and softened over a long life, and the gaps between them are already started. A squirrel only has to widen one. If a tree near the house has limbs over the roof, it does not even need to climb the wall. It walks across.
Can a newer Tomball house get squirrels too?
Yes. Newer houses in the subdivisions around town have sound wood, so squirrels go after the softer parts instead: plastic roof vents, the thin screen behind a gable vent, and the seams where two roof lines meet. Here is how each part of a roof holds up against a squirrel.
| Part of the roof | What a squirrel does to it |
|---|---|
| Plastic roof vent | Chews straight through the cover |
| Gable vent screen | Chews one corner of the screen and pushes in |
| Aged or soft fascia and soffit wood | Widens an existing gap into a round hole |
| Sound, painted wood | Slower going, but it can still chew an edge open |
| Metal flashing and galvanized hardware cloth | Cannot chew through it, which is why Michael seals with it |
How Michael handles it here
He walks the whole roofline, because squirrels often have a second hole, and checks the attic for nests and chewed wiring. A one-way door goes over the main opening so the squirrels can leave and not return, and live cage traps are used where a door will not fit. Gray and fox squirrels are game animals under the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, and Michael removes them alive and handles them following Texas rules. Before the last opening is closed, he makes sure no young are left in the nest. Then every hole is covered with metal or hardware cloth, chewed wood is replaced, and he points out the limbs that should be cut back from the roof.
That sealing step is the heart of the animal exclusion work he does on every house. The main squirrel removal page has more on squirrels in general, and the Tomball page covers the rest of his work here.

Michael handles squirrels in Spring and Klein too. In Tomball, the gaps squirrels chew are often used next by roof rats, covered under rat and mouse control in Tomball, and a torn soffit instead of a neat round hole usually points to raccoons in Tomball. Questions people ask about squirrels in Tomball
How do I know it is squirrels in my Tomball attic?
Squirrels keep daytime hours. If the running and scratching start soon after sunrise and again in the late afternoon, and the attic is quiet at night, squirrels are the likely answer. From outside, look for a round hole at the roof edge or a chewed vent, and watch for a squirrel going in and out of the same spot.
Are chewed wires in the attic something to worry about?
They are the part to take seriously. Squirrels chew on whatever is in reach, and attic wiring is in reach. You usually cannot see the damage from below. Michael looks for chewed wiring during the inspection and tells you if he finds any, so you can have an electrician check it. Sealing the roof stops any more chewing.
Will cutting back my trees keep squirrels off the roof in Tomball?
It helps, but it does not do the job alone. Squirrels climb walls, downspouts and utility lines too. Trimming limbs back from the roof takes away the easiest route, which matters on any Tomball lot with trees close to the house. The roof still needs every opening sealed with metal or hardware cloth, because a squirrel that wants in will find another way up.
Why did the squirrels chew a new hole after the old one was closed?
Usually because something was still inside, often young in a nest, or because only one opening was covered. A squirrel shut away from its nest will chew right next to the patched spot to get back in. That is why Michael uses a one-way door first, checks for young, and seals the whole roofline rather than one hole.
