Snake Removal in Cypress, Texas

If a snake is in your Cypress garage, yard or house, step back, bring children and pets inside, and keep an eye on where it goes from a safe distance. Do not try to catch it or kill it. Michael Gerbino of Cypress Critters & Pests removes the snake himself, then looks for what drew it to the house, which is often rodents, and closes the gaps it used. Call Michael at 713-775-8799 and say where you last saw it.

Why do snakes turn up around Cypress houses?

A lot of Cypress was woods and fields not long ago, and much of it still is, right behind the fences. Cypress Creek and the wooded strips along it hold frogs, lizards, rats and mice, and the snakes that eat them. When a new section of streets is built on that edge, the snakes are still there. They move into the closest cover, and the closest cover is often a yard.

These are the places Michael is most often called to in Cypress:

  • Garages, where a worn door seal lets mice in and the snake follows.
  • Flower beds and thick mulch along the foundation, which stay cool and damp.
  • Yards that back up to woods or the creek, especially along the back fence.
  • Older acreage lots with tall grass, woodpiles, sheds and stacked lumber.
  • Under decks and raised floors, where rodents nest in the shade.

Texas Parks and Wildlife describes the southern copperhead as found in the eastern one-third of the state and the western cottonmouth over the eastern half, around ponds, streams and marshes. Many other snakes are harmless, and up close they can be hard to tell apart. Assume any snake might be venomous until Michael has seen it. If anyone is bitten, call 911.

How Michael handles a snake call here

Michael removes the snake with the right tools while everyone stays back. Then he looks for the reason it came: rodent droppings in the garage, a gap under a door, a broken vent screen or open space under a deck. Those openings get closed with metal and hardware cloth, and space under a deck or shed can be closed with buried mesh. He also points out the woodpiles, mulch and clutter that make the yard inviting. The full method is on the snake removal page.

Removing one snake does not change why it came. If rats are still in the garage and the gaps are still open, another snake follows. Sealing those gaps is the work on the animal exclusion and live trapping page.

Questions people ask about snakes in Cypress

Why did a snake show up after they cleared the lot next door?

Clearing land takes away the snake’s cover but not the snake. It moves to the nearest place with shade and food, and in Cypress that is often the yards beside the new construction. Rodents pushed out by the same clearing make those yards even more attractive. Closing gaps and clearing cover near the house helps it move on.

Is the snake in my Cypress flower bed dangerous?

Do not walk up to it to check. Some snakes in the eastern part of Texas are venomous and many are not, and they can look alike in a shady bed. Keep back at least a garden hose length, keep children and pets inside, and take a photo from a distance if you safely can. Michael identifies and removes it.

Can Michael keep snakes out of my garage?

He can close the ways in. Most garage snakes come in under a worn door seal or through a gap at a corner, usually following mice. Michael seals those gaps, deals with the rodents and points out clutter along the walls that gives a snake a place to hide. That makes the garage a much poorer place for a snake.

What if the snake gets inside the house?

Get people and pets out of that room and close the door behind you. Roll a towel along the gap under the door so it stays put. Note where you last saw it, then call. Snakes usually come in through a gap under an outside door, a dryer vent or an AC line opening, and Michael finds and seals that spot.
