Squirrel Removal in Spring, Texas

Squirrels in a Spring attic are usually heard in daylight, running over the ceiling in the morning and again before dark. Michael Gerbino of Cypress Critters & Pests gets them out alive with one-way doors or cage traps, closes each hole with metal, and replaces the chewed wood at the roof edge. He is based in Spring and works the job himself. Call Michael at 713-775-8799.

What do squirrels do to Spring houses?

Spring is full of tall trees, and on many streets they grow right up against the house. For a squirrel, a limb that touches the roof is a front walk. It runs to the end of the branch, hops onto the shingles and starts chewing at the roof edge, where the wood is softest and a small gap is often already there. A squirrel’s teeth never stop growing, so a crack at a fascia board or the corner of a gable vent becomes a round hole in short order.

Inside, squirrels shred insulation for a nest, stash food and chew whatever is close, wiring included. They can raise young twice a year here, so a Spring attic can go from one squirrel to a family quickly. Many homeowners can spot the problem without climbing a ladder.

What to look for Where to look What it tells you
A round hole with chewed, clean edges Fascia board or a roof corner An entry squirrels are using now
Fresh wood chips on the driveway or in the gutter Below the roof edge Active chewing above
A squirrel running the same limb or power line every day Trees and lines beside the house Its route onto the roof
Gnawed corners on a vent Gable peak or roof vents A second way in, or an older one
Leaves or insulation poking out of a vent Roof or gable vent A nest just inside

How Michael handles it here

He walks the whole roofline, not just the hole the homeowner saw, and checks the attic for nests and chewed wires. A one-way door goes over the main hole so the squirrels can leave and cannot return, and cage traps are used where a door will not fit. Texas Parks and Wildlife Code lists gray squirrels and fox squirrels among its game animals, and any squirrel Michael catches in Spring is removed alive and handled following Texas rules.

Removing the squirrels does not end it on its own. Spring has squirrels in nearly every yard, and new ones find an old hole by the scent of the nest. The lasting part is sealing every opening with hardware cloth and metal flashing, the work laid out on the animal exclusion and live trapping page. Michael checks for young before the last hole is closed, replaces chewed fascia and soffit, and points out the limbs giving squirrels a bridge. The full service is on the squirrel removal page.

Michael handles squirrels in The Woodlands to the north, where the trees are just as close to the roofs, and in Klein. In Spring, a torn soffit instead of a chewed hole points to raccoon removal in Spring, and scratching late at night points to rat and mouse control in Spring. The rest of Michael’s Spring work is listed on the Spring, Texas page.

What goes into the quote?

Michael gives a number after he has been on the roof. It depends on how many holes and weak spots there are, how steep and high the roof is where they sit, whether there is a nest with young, how much fascia or soffit needs replacing, and how many vents need metal guards. Questions people ask about squirrel removal in Spring

Why are there so many squirrels on Spring rooftops?

Spring has a lot of mature trees, and many of them hang over or touch the houses. That gives squirrels food, nesting spots and a direct path onto the roof. A roof edge with a small gap under a limb is an easy place for them to chew in, which is why Michael sees so many squirrel jobs across Spring.

Is the morning noise in my Spring attic a squirrel or a rat?

Running and scratching soon after sunrise and again late in the afternoon points to squirrels, since they leave to feed in the morning and come back before dark. Roof rats are busy in the middle of the night instead. Michael confirms which animal it is by the size and shape of the hole and the droppings he finds in the attic.

How does Michael make sure no squirrel gets sealed inside?

He uses a one-way door on the main hole so the squirrels let themselves out, and he checks the nest for young before the last opening is closed. Only when the attic is clear does the door come off and the hole get sealed with metal. That keeps a mother from chewing a new hole to reach her litter.

What gets repaired after squirrels chew the roof edge?

Chewed fascia boards and soffit pieces are replaced with sound wood, and the gaps behind them are closed with metal flashing or hardware cloth so the new wood is not chewed again. Vent covers they gnawed are swapped for metal ones. If Michael sees chewed wiring in the attic, he points it out so an electrician can check it.
