Snake Removal in The Woodlands, Texas

A wooded lot gives snakes everything they look for: leaf litter, shade, and the mice, frogs and lizards that live in it. That is why Woodlands homeowners find them in garages, pine straw beds and around pool pumps. If you see one, keep your distance and bring pets and children inside. Michael Gerbino of Cypress Critters & Pests removes the snake himself and then finds what drew it close to the house. Call Michael at 713-775-8799 and tell him where you last saw it.

What do snakes do around Woodlands houses?

Snakes are part of a forest, and The Woodlands is built in one. Most of the time they stay in the greenbelt and the leaf litter, hunting and keeping out of sight. They come up to a house for two reasons: food and cover. Rodents in the garage, frogs around the pool, lizards in a warm planting bed, and a cool, cluttered corner to rest in will pull a snake out of the woods and into your space.

For the eastern part of the state, Texas Parks and Wildlife names four venomous groups: copperheads, cottonmouths, timber rattlesnakes and coral snakes. Many harmless kinds live here too. Telling them apart up close is not your job. Treat every snake as one that could hurt you, stay well back, and if someone is bitten, call 911 right away.

Where snakes turn up on a Woodlands lot What draws them What changes it
Garage Mice coming under a worn door seal; cool, cluttered corners New door seal, sealed gaps, stored items off the floor
Pine straw and mulch beds by the foundation Moisture, lizards and frogs Pull the bedding back from the slab and keep it thin
Pool equipment pad Warmth, and frogs near the water Clear the leaves and close gaps under the equipment cover
Under a deck Shade and rodent nests Mesh buried along the edge of the deck
Fence line backing onto the greenbelt Leaf litter and tall growth Keep the strip between the fence and the house mowed and open

Why does removing the snake not end the visits?

Taking one snake away does not change the reasons it came. If the garage still has a gap under the door and mice inside, the next snake follows the same trail. That is why Michael pairs removal with animal exclusion: he seals the gaps that let rodents and snakes into garages, crawl spaces and the space under decks, and he deals with the rodents themselves through rat and mouse control in The Woodlands.

How Michael handles it here

  1. Remove the snake. He uses the right tools and keeps everyone back while he works. Texas Parks and Wildlife asks people not to kill a snake, and Michael does not ask you to try.
  2. Find the reason. He looks for rodent signs, the cover the snake was using and the gap it came through.
  3. Seal the way in. Door seals, vent screens, A/C line chases and gaps at the slab get closed with lasting materials.
  4. Close off shelter. Space under a deck or shed can be sealed with buried mesh.
  5. Walk the yard with you. He points out the beds, woodpiles and clutter that make the lot inviting.

Snake calls come in from neighboring towns too: see snake removal in Spring and snake removal in Tomball. Questions people ask about snakes in The Woodlands

How can I tell if a Woodlands snake is venomous?

Do not try to work it out up close. Venomous and harmless snakes share this part of Texas, and several harmless ones look a lot like the dangerous kinds in poor light or half hidden in leaves. Treat any snake as dangerous, keep pets and children away, and take a photo only if you can do it without moving closer.

Why do snakes keep showing up in my Woodlands garage?

Most often the garage has mice. A worn door seal lets rodents in, the snake follows their scent, and boxes along the walls give it a place to hide. Sealing the door and the gaps around pipes, and getting rid of the rodents, takes away both the food and the way in. Clearing stored items off the floor helps too.

Will another snake come back after this one is removed?

It can, if nothing else changes. A yard with rodents, thick ground cover and open gaps under doors and decks keeps drawing snakes from the woods. Michael removes the one you found, then shows you where it came in and what drew it, so the sealing and the yard changes make the next visit far less likely.

Is thick pine straw against the house a problem?

It can be. A deep layer of pine straw or mulch right against the slab stays damp and cool, and it hides the lizards, frogs and insects snakes hunt. Pulling it back from the foundation and keeping it thinner leaves less cover next to the doors and the garage. It is a small change that makes the house edge less inviting.
