Cypress, Texas

Cypress Critters & Pests takes its name from this town, and Cypress is where Michael Gerbino spends a good share of his days. He handles raccoon and squirrel removal in attics, roof rats running fence lines, snakes in garages and flower beds, and the open gaps that let all of them into a house. He inspects the house himself, catches animals alive in cage traps, seals every opening and repairs the damage. Call Michael at 713-775-8799 to have your Cypress house looked at.

Michael’s main work in Cypress is animal exclusion in Cypress: getting raccoons, squirrels, rats and other animals out of the attic, walls and crawl space alive, then sealing the roofline, vents and foundation with metal so they cannot get back in. The full write-up of how it is done is on the animal exclusion in Spring, TX page. Call 713-775-8799 to have the house checked.

Why do Cypress houses see so much wildlife?

Cypress has no city government of its own. It sits in Harris County, northwest of Houston along US-290. It grew fast. Large master-planned subdivisions now sit right beside older acreage lots, and Cypress Creek runs through the middle of it all with woods along its banks. That mix is what keeps Michael busy here.

When a stretch of woods is cleared for a new section of streets, the animals that lived there do not leave the area. They move to the nearest edge, and in Cypress that edge is often the back fence of a house that was finished a few months ago. The creek woods and the wooded strips between neighborhoods give raccoons, rats and snakes a sheltered road from the trees to the yards. On the older acreage lots, big trees, sheds, barns and woodpiles give them even more places to settle.

A new house is not a sealed house, either. Builders work fast, and small gaps at roof corners, vents and pipe openings are common on houses only a few years old. An animal that is looking for a dry den finds them quickly.

What does Michael get called for most in Cypress?

Most Cypress calls fall into five kinds of work. Each one has its own page with what Michael sees here and how he handles it.

  • Raccoons in the attic or chimney. Heavy walking over the ceiling at night, a torn soffit or a pulled vent. See raccoon removal in Cypress.
  • Squirrels chewing in at the roofline. Running and scratching in daylight, a round hole at a fascia corner. See squirrel removal in Cypress.
  • Roof rats and mice. Quick scratching after dark, droppings in the garage or pantry, rats on top of the fence. See rat and mouse control in Cypress.
  • Snakes. In the garage, along the foundation, in a flower bed or under a deck, often on lots that back up to woods. See snake removal in Cypress.
  • Sealing the whole house. Closing every opening so the next animal has no way in. See animal exclusion in Cypress.

Opossums under decks and porches are common here too, and they have their own page on opossum removal in Cypress.

Why is exclusion the answer for a Cypress house?

Catching an animal clears the attic for now. It does not close the hole. In a town where the woods are one fence away, another raccoon, squirrel or rat finds that same opening soon after, often by following the smell the last one left. So Michael does not stop at the trap. He finds every opening on the house, from the roof returns down to the foundation vents, and seals each one with metal or heavy galvanized hardware cloth. That work is laid out on the animal exclusion and live trapping page, and the Cypress side of it is on the Cypress exclusion page.

Questions people ask about wildlife in Cypress

Why are there more animals since the new section opened behind us?

Clearing land does not send the animals far. Raccoons, rats, snakes and squirrels that lived in those woods move to the closest cover, and in Cypress that is often the yards on the new edge. A house that backs up to fresh construction or the creek woods tends to get visitors first. Sealing the house is what keeps those visitors outside.

Can a house in Cypress that is only a few years old have openings?

Yes. New houses go up quickly, and small gaps at roof corners, gable vent screens, pipe openings and the spot where the AC lines enter the wall are common. They are easy for an animal to find and easy to miss from the ground. Michael checks those spots on every inspection, newer house or not.

What should I do until Michael gets to my house?

Keep children and pets away from the animal and do not try to catch, corner or handle it. If it is in the attic, leave the attic closed. If it is a snake, watch where it goes from a safe distance. Note when you hear noise and where, because that tells Michael a lot before he even climbs the ladder.

Does Michael also treat roaches and termites in Cypress?

Yes. Along with wildlife work, Michael handles general pest control for roaches, ants and spiders, plus bed bugs and termite treatment, across Cypress and the towns around it. Each of those has its own page under pest control, with what the treatment involves and what the homeowner can do to help it work.
